[My first use of my tsukumogami mechanics for a fully fictional critter, instead of an established yokai. Won’t be my last. I enjoyed the opportunity to make a version of Master Hand from SSB.]
Overhoard The
mound of treasure surges to life, forming into the shape of an enormous
grasping hand. The bulk of its body is made of coins and gems.
An overhoard is created from
an abandoned treasury, dragon’s hoard, or other pile of riches that has not
been touched or valued for some time. Like many other objects, over time these
masses of lucre can develop their own personalities and become animate, and an
overhoard’s personality is covetous and cruel. They desire nothing more than to
add to their own bulk with the valuables of other creatures, and they will kill
or die in the pursuit of pure acquisitiveness.
All overhoards contain in
their core at least two powerful magic items, and the nature of these items
determines the overhoard’s abilities. Battles with different overhoards may
progress differently due to their varied magical talents, and all overhoards
are canny enough to use their abilities skillfully. Although they appear as a
giant hand, they strike with each finger simultaneously. If they strike with
multiple fingers, they pull opponents into their grasp and squeeze, but cannot
maintain enough solidity for long enough to grapple and constrict foes easily.
Overhoards are often both
hunters and hunted, as they carry in their bodies great riches. Some dragons
view overhoards as worthy game, following rumors of their presence in order to
destroy them and add their bodies to the dragon’s hoard.
