Dwarves are a highly devout people who deeply respect their honored dead. As such, few things are a greater blasphemy than the dreaded dwarven vampire.
The dwarven vampire is a specific vampiric strain that can only be passed on from one dwarf to another (including duergar); a dwarf who is turned by a standard vampire, nosferatu, jiang-shi, vetala, or other such creature does not gain the dwarven vampire template, but instead has the same strain as its vampiric sire.
Dwarven vampires retain their racial pride, and as a result are deeply disgusted of what they have become. They take out their self-loathing on any victims they can, but mainly hide away in their crypts and caves in isolation. They still need the blood of the living to survive, however, and relish in dragging down other dwarves with the curse of the vampire – though they frequently destroy their own spawn in fits of remorse to give them release.
A dwarven vampire appears as it did in life, but with a gaunt, angular appearance. Its hair and beard turn a stark white or silver. A dwarven vampire leaves a trail of dust, similar to powdered rock, wherever it goes.
The Ownama dwarves, late of Ownwem, have recorded instances of these vile creatures throughout history. Some theorize that such a creature is responsible for the catastrophe of Ownwem, though this is not certain.
