Legion devils, also called merregons, are the foot soldiers of Hell, marching by the thousands upon the blasted plains of Avernus. Though they are among the weakest servants of the Pit, they fight with unwavering discipline and coordination.
A legion devil is a horned humanoid standing six feet in height, with clawed hands and feet and a long reptilian tail. They deck themselves in black armor, often adorned with the symbol of the infernal duke or archdevil they serve.
Merregons are dim-witted brutes, but follow orders unfailingly and fight with a high degree of cooperation. They follow strictly regimented schedules, training, patrolling, or marching on their enemies like clockwork. Most legion devils officers advance in racial Hit Dice or as fighters, but those who show the most ferocity and drive are quickly singled out for transformation into bearded devils or lesser host devils.
