Skulking
Carcass

This
leather-clad rotting corpse wields a wicked-looking sword in one hand.

There may be honor among thieves, but it isn’t
common. When a thief is murdered by someone they considered an ally, they may
return from death as an undead monster to avenge themselves and continue their
secretive trade. These are the skulking carcasses.

A skulking carcass acts much like the thief it was
in life, but even goodly rogues become evil monsters when they rise from death.
Skulking carcasses think nothing of murder for the most minor of trinkets, and
the thefts they pull are calculated to create misery more than to obtain
wealth. Given the option, a skulking carcass will gladly steal from beggars or
charities even if the take is meager. Some skulking carcasses organize
themselves into a guild, which operates as any thieves’ guild, albeit a
particularly cruel one.

Skulking carcasses, being both relatively weak and
relatively intelligent, frequently gain class levels and ally themselves with
other urban monsters. Most skulking carcasses take levels in rogue or slayer to
complement their natural abilities, and high level skulking carcasses
frequently train as assassins. The skulking carcass shown here is of Medium
size, but Small skulking carcasses are not uncommon in lands where halflings, kobolds
or goblins dwell.

Most thieves’ guilds in Gladia are formed under the tutelage of Seshket’s faithful, and skulking carcasses are associated with that god as a result.
