“Harbinger of Light” © Benedict Bana, accessed at his ArtStation page here

[This week we’re covering psionic monsters, from Expanded Psionics Handbook and Complete Psionic. It’s about time–the PFRPG equivalent, occult/psychic magic, is the non-core rules-set I turn to most frequently. The original “sibyllic guardian” exists solely for good vs. evil balance in the original Complete Psionic. Its stats there are super boring (and art confusing, which is why I’ve replaced it), so I’ve given it some abilities to make it more interesting and so it actually lives up to the “sibyl” name. This is much more an “inspired by” than a direct conversion.]

Archon, Sibyl
This winged figure carries a
mighty sword and wears robes over its armor. It wears a hood over its head,
which cannot conceal that instead of a face it has nothing more than glowing
light.

Sibyl
archons are the oracles of Heaven, able to draw on the past, present and future
to further the causes of law and good. They frequently are called upon to guard
goodly occultists, and their understanding of magical and religious lore is
potent. Anything a sibyl archon does not know themselves can be called upon
magically, putting themselves or their summoners in touch with empyreal lords,
the souls of the deceased and even the rippling strands of fate. They despise
incorporeal undead and any that would interfere with the passage of the River of Souls, and they tend to get on well with
psychopomps.

Sibyl
archons are more magically gifted than sword or shield archons, and may find
themselves in command of a legion of these in the heavenly host. They rarely
enter battle without preparation, using their divinatory abilities to determine
the nature of their foes. If their plans fail them, they can receive flashes of
astonishing insight, pulling victory from the jaws of defeat and turning a
lethal blow into a near miss. They are cautious combatants, and if the tides of
battle turn against them, they will more likely retreat to plan a counterstrike
than sacrifice themselves needlessly.

Their focus on knowledge means that sibyl archons get along well with word archons, with the former acting as information retrieval and the latter as cataloguers. They are frequently associated with the church of Fawfin, though their allegiance to Heaven comes above all else.
