[Always room for more evil dog monsters, right? To make these stand out from the pack, I’ve made them elementals.]

Ashen Prowler
This man-sized hound appears to be
made of molten rock.

Ashen
prowlers are vile, dog-like monsters native to regions where the elemental
planes of Earth and Fire bleed into one another. They are heat-loving
creatures, and when found on the Material Plane it is typically in magma
chambers or other scorching hot environments. Fire heals them rather than harms
them, and ashen prowlers take advantage of this by ensuring that they catch
each other in their breath weapons when battling in tandem.

Although
ashen prowlers do not need to eat, their malevolence is such that they delight
in the incinerating of flesh and the crunch of bones in their jaws. Ashen
prowlers are only dimly intelligent, but that intelligence is directed mainly
towards vengeance. A creature that escapes or drives off a pack of ashen
prowlers is likely to find itself hunted for days as the creatures seek to get
their revenge. This single-mindedness makes them popular as guard beasts with
salamanders and other evil elementals, but efreeti and shaitans typically find
them too chaotic and unreliable to work with.

An ashen
prowler stands four feet high at the shoulder and weighs nearly 500 pounds due
to its rocky composition. They are social creatures that reproduce asexually
when exposed to the magical energies of particularly potent lava fields—as
such, these places are guarded ferociously by ashen prowlers and those that
seek to use them.

Ashen prowlers are found in the lava fields of Dwas’kin, where they conflict with the fire giant tribes. They are especially violent to the hell hounds favored as companions by the giants.
