[”Orci timor. The fear of Hell. Many theatric preachers…successfully inspire this terror, and live comfortably on the folly of their hearers. In this kind of madness the poor patients frequently commit suicide; although they believe they run headlong into the Hell, which they dread! Such is the power of oratory, and such is the debility of the human understanding!” Erasmus Darwin, Zoonomia ]
Devil, Orcitimor This diabolical humanoid is tall
and lean, with membranous wings growing along its arms. It grins at you with an
eyeless face, and a crescent-shaped pair of horns grows from its brow.
Orcitimors,
known also as fear devils, prey upon the fear of punishment and the drive to
zealotry within mortals. They sometimes act as sponsors to those who come to
the worship of arch-devils. A fear devil is particularly fond of corrupting the
devout, using their words and magical nightmares to slowly warp the souls of
the faithful from honest devotion to fear-mongering, hypocrisy and hate for
those that do not share their religion. The frantic wails of the damned who
expect to be rewarded by their gods for service but instead end up tormented in
Hell are the sweetest music to an orcitimor’s finely attuned ears.
In Hell,
orcitimors are most commonly found perched in Stygia like vultures, combing through
libraries of heresies and doubts in order to perfectly craft their lies and
threats. They frequently work with contract devils, acting as the stick to the
phistophilus’ carrot, wearing down a prospective client until they turn to evil
out of their own free will. In combat, an orctimor delights in breaking up
formations with their fear effects, then pursuing a single opponent and tearing
them apart in their blind panic. An orcitimor stands over six feet tall and has
a wingspan of 12 feet.
