Nodeppou This flying squirrel is the size
of a small dog, and its teeth and claws are razor sharp. Its eyes gleam with
malign intelligence.
Nodeppou
are cruel carnivores that closely resemble a harmless flying squirrel. Their
great size and cunning is the primary difference between them and their mundane
kin, but anyone who spies a nodeppou in the air is unlikely to mistake the two.
A nodeppou can properly fly, although not very well, and they are aerial
hunters.
Nodeppou
prefer to strike from ambush, using their weird magic to pelt enemies with
swarms of bats and pouncing upon those that attempt to flee. They will
occasionally hunt in groups, although these assaults are more competitive than
cooperative, with nodeppou keeping score over how many enemies they kill or
blood they drain. They kill more than they need to and use the desiccated bodies
as grisly decorations. Although nodeppou have little use for treasure, they do
have an eye for shiny objects, and their nests may contain a few items of
interest.
Nodeppou are most common on the island of Waster, where they will feed on prey as large as llamas. The native elves spend considerable resources on hunting them in response.
