[Another case in the neural network creatures where the art dictated what direction the statistics went. I had been thinking of doing a serpentine shark, but I liked the long-necked shark more.]
Serpent Shark This shark has a wide, hammer
shaped head crowning a long, flexible neck.
Serpent
sharks are voracious aquatic predators created by magical tampering. Like many
terrestrial chimeric creatures, such as the owlbear and the bulette, they are
believed to have originated in the experiments of a magic user, although this
magic user was likely a merfolk, sahaugin or other aquatic humanoid. Although
some can still found as mind-controlled guardians of remote island redoubts or
underwater dungeons, they breed true and can frequently be found wild.
Serpent
sharks are gregarious animals, and their voracious appetites demand a large
amount of meat. Much of their prey comes from snagging relatively small
animals, but in large numbers they target whales, giant squid and aquatic
monsters of various kinds. They have learned to recognize that ships and boats
often have food in them, and they use their long, flexible necks to reach from
beneath the surface to snap at sailors and passengers. They can be found in
oceans of any temperature, from warm coral reefs to the ice-covered polar
regions.
Serpent sharks are most common along Gladia’s western coasts, where they come into conflict with hydrarchoses. Schools of them are especially common near the Black Holds.
