[Commissioned by @justicegundam82. These Basic D&D elementals all had the ability to see invisible creatures. I already gave see invisibility to the hydrax, so I figured I’d come up with some flavorful alternatives. I very much get ophanim vibes from this creature]
Helion An enormous ring of fire spins in
midair, but its aspect is somehow gentle. Eyes stud its surface, barely visible
as glimmering points within the fire.
Helions
are peaceful and kind creatures native to the Plane of Fire, where they work to
combat the wickedness of the efreeti and salamanders. The helions are pacifists
by nature and abhor violence, only using it as a last resort. They are wise and
philosophical, and organize themselves into “rings” based on similar creeds or
outlooks. Such rings spend most of their time in good natured debate when not
working to protect the helpless.
A helion
typically finds combat distasteful, but is skilled at it nonetheless. Their
fires are supernaturally safe, allowing them to burn creatures into
unconsciousness but leaving no permanent damage. They can expand or contract
their circular bodies at will, allowing them to squeeze into tiny passages, or
shape their forms into lassos to strike at and grapple enemies. When a helion
has an opponent grappled in such a way, it will typically try to negotiate
terms of release. They do not kill if they can help it, and attempt to work to
redeem enemies if they can.
A helion
forms a hoop about twenty feet in diameter in its natural state, but its actual
body is only about two feet across.
Helions are not very common in Gladia, since most natives associate fire with the wicked god Hinnva, and they do not wish to cause unnecessary trouble. When cultists of Hinnva bargain with wicked fiery creatures, however, the helions will sometimes follow and offer assistance to those trying to put a stop to their schemes.
